Elephant is a health technology company tackling the big problems in global healthcare. Founded by doctors and driven by technical expertise, we are building a platform that improves outcomes, reduces costs and makes healthcare accessible for all. Our software digitises medical clinics, connects patients with healthcare systems, and empowers practitioners and patients.

Our company has deep ethical roots, combining science with ambition and social purpose. Our culture is based on bias for action and collaboration; openness and candour; passion and kindness. A short case study of our work in Kenya can be found at https://vimeo.com/369570618/a5d3d8f82f.

We are a young and fast-moving company with tonnes of ambition. Whatever role you are hired for you will need to come prepared to work dynamically and for things to change. We are looking for talented people to join our team and become central to Elephant's fabric and culture at this exciting stage of growth.

We have active offices in Nairobi, Karachi, Accra and London. Elephant was founded in 2018 and is backed by leading VC firms including Novastar Ventures, MantaRay, General Catalyst, LocalGlobe, First Minute, SeedCamp, Push Ventures and Speed Invest.

We are a small band of experts. This inspires our purpose as we focus on delivering solutions for real-world health and social care problems. Our culture is open, creative and collaborative, and we believe that products, whether used in Sudan or San Francisco should be intuitive and beautiful.

We have a firm code of principles based on transparency, safety and security, and want to build trust in all those who work with us. If you think you have what it takes, please get in touch.

Role Overview

As UX/UI Design Lead, you will be responsible for the following: leading the design function at Elephant, encompassing all aspects of the user experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our product managers, designers and engineering teams to deliver simple, functional and beautiful products to our clients. You will lead on setting Elephant’s design vision, principles, and strategy, and be responsible for creating the systems and processes needed to deliver. The role will include constant need for hands-on design.

You will manage and lead the design team: designers will report to you and you will use your skills as a manager and coach to enable them and nurture their talents. You will also be responsible for growing the team with new hires.

To be successful in this role, you will need to exhibit a comprehensive understanding of user experience and interface design, and we hope you believe that great design bridges cultural and educational boundaries.

This is a full-time position based in the UK. Elephant works remotely, however, we appreciate that's not for everyone and we can provide you with a co-working membership in Central London, if desired. We will occasionally get together for in-person workshops and meetings and would love to see you there, therefore the ability to travel to London, with notice, is preferable.

We’re looking for a passionate, good humoured and technically skilled design leader to join and contribute to Elephant's team.

You will have proven experience designing exceptional user-experiences across a range of products and platforms, with an eye for beautiful user experiences that are integrated and simple.

You will enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (sometimes international and remote), and are able to communicate complex ideas clearly.

As a leader, you’ll work to help us prioritise features and outcomes that impact our users. You’ll be closely involved with product strategy and bring your ideas and expertise to the table.

  • Experience as a manager and coach.
  • Excellent personal communication skills (listening, verbal and written);
  • Excellent critical analysis skills, dealing with ambiguity and presenting and communicating complex ideas with clarity to a wide variety of stakeholders both internal and external;
  • Decisive decision-making ability with the ability to evaluate compromises with the team;
  • Experience with using data and metrics to drive prioritisation;
  • A bias for action, and delivering results and being responsible to management for budgetary decisions;
  • An ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • A natural propensity for enthusiasm, positivity, curiosity, innovation, acting with care for others, speaking with clarity and candour.

Benefits

Salary of up to £100,000 per year for the right candidate, with stock options. Your salary and benefits will grow significantly as the company continues to grow.

Our benefits include:
